Description
The tower’s history is unknown, but it is confirmed to be from the Frankish period, likely built in the 13th or 14th century. To the east of the tower lie the ruins of a medieval settlement, which was evidently protected by the tower. This settlement was called "Panagia" and had already been abandoned by the late 17th century.
On a hill 2 km further west of the Askri tower, at a site known as “Pyrgaki,” there is another tower. This one was built by the Thespians (from the ancient Greek city of Thespiae) in the 4th century BC and was never reused. As it is an ancient structure, it is not included in our site.
