Inextricably linked with Koufonisia, Keros is a small, uninhabited and uninhabited islet of 15 square kilometers in the southeast of Ano Koufonisia.

It was one of the most important centers of Cycladic culture, where it was called Keria or Keria, a name that was first mentioned in 425 BC. on an inscription of the taxing allies of the Athenian League.

In ancient times, Keros was united with the islet of Daskalio, and in the bay that exists between them today was the main settlement of the island, which today is submerged.

During the Middle Ages, Keros was a stronghold of pirates, while in recent years, until 1952, it was the property of the Monastery of Chozoviotissa of Amorgos and then the property of the Agricultural Service.

In Keros, very important findings have been discovered in the proto-Cycladic cemetery, among which more than 100 marble figurines, which are currently exhibited in the Archaeological Museum of Athens, while an extensive fortified settlement has been identified on the Daskalio islet.

Keros has been declared an archaeological site, and you can get here by boat from Ano Koufonisi.
