Description
The beach of Schinia Livanates belongs to the south-western coast of the North Evian Gulf. More specifically, the swimming coast occupies part of an open bay located south of Akrotiri Arkitsa, 4.7 km long. The length of the beach is 840 m., the average width is 15 m. and with a northeast orientation.
The coastal zone is natural. The landward part of the coast is covered with sandy material and has dense tall vegetation consisting mainly of tamarisks, palms and broad-leaved trees. The seabed is sandy with a gentle slope, since the isobath of 5 meters is found at a distance of about 130 meters from the coast. The marine biodiversity mainly includes brown algae that are attached to the rocky parts of the coast. Finally, the swimming waters in the first meters are shallow.
Part of the beach is organized and has infrastructure such as sunbeds and permanent umbrellas, showers and waste baskets. Bathers are served by refreshment stands operating at the edge of the coast. Swimming is the main activity on the shore. Finally, the area is accessible by road exclusively with private means of transport. The maximum number of bathers is 2,000 people.
The immediate area around the beach is primarily rural and covered by clusters of crops. A very small percentage of land is built up and mainly concerns holiday homes.
