Description
Afales is the large gulf in the north of Ithaca. It hides in its depths many pebbly beaches, while at one end, towards the east, is Platia Ammos, the only beach with completely white sand in Ithaca, which is only accessible by boat.
At the bottom of the bay in Afales, there is a series of beaches, pebbly, with rocks and deep blue, turquoise waters. The landscape has a wild beauty with steep, bare cliffs at one end and verdant vegetation at the other. The trees reach as far as the sea: olives, cypresses, pines, tall holly trees give special color to the landscape and make Afales unique.
Access to Afales is by car, on a paved road from Gefyri point in the village of Platreithia. The route is dreamlike, with lush vegetation and towering trees. From the first beach we meet at the end of the road to Afales, we can reach the others either from the beach or from the small paths that start from the tarmac at the end of the road that is also used for parking.
