Description
In Thirasia, due to its volcanic origin, the coasts are steep and the beaches few and far between – with black stones and pebbles. However, the tranquility of the landscape and the wonderful view compensate the swimmers.
The Black Beach, with its crystal clear waters, of the settlement of Agia Irini is located near the port of Riva (here is also the church of Agia Irini or Santa Irene which according to one version gave its name to Santorini).
Also, there is the beach in the port of Corfu with coarse pebbles and pumice stones.
Visitors usually prefer the black beach of Agia Irini, which is located near the port of Riva, while several daredevils (need to go down and then up 270 paved steps) prefer diving from the old and very picturesque port of Corfu.
Those who own a boat clearly have more options.
