Description
Close to Porto Rafti, on its southern side, is the sandy beach of Avlaki, a favorite destination for the residents of the capital who go swimming in the beaches of Attica. Avlaki is about 38 kilometers from the center of Athens, towards the east, and its beach is well protected from both the southerly winds and the classic summer meltemias.
The waters are clear blue and delightful and the sandy beach - which has been receiving the Blue Flag for years - is suitable for young and old. At the point there is also an organized beach for those who wish to dive with all the comforts. Precisely because of its character and its location, the beach of Avlaki attracts many bathers.
The crowds may be a problem you will have to deal with if you visit Avlaki during peak hours and days. Those who choose either the weekdays or the morning hours, have the opportunity to enjoy the beach and the sea in peace.
If you do not prefer the organized beach, to the right of it there is the so-called "small beach", which is a free beach. There is also the option of Kalos Gyalos with the tavern of the same name, where the beach is free, while between Kalos Gyalos and the beach one can dive in the large free beach which has some facilities but without a ticket.
Those who enjoy diving can head to the rocks in the Prasies area, after the small beach. At the end of the rocky beach is the "hump" area, as the locals call it, with the rocks forming the most beautiful platform overlooking the sea.
