Description
Although the tower follows the Venetian style typical of such fortifications, it is likely not of Venetian origin. Its exact construction date is unknown, but it was probably built in the early 15th century, which would classify it as late-Byzantine.
In 1995-1996, the 10th Ephorate of Byzantine Antiquities carried out restoration work that included installing a hidden wooden roof, partially restoring the floors, and adding wooden steps to allow access to the interior of the tower.
On the steep slope directly south of the tower are two water mills in succession, remnants of a larger group of mills that once operated using the same water source. The water tank for the first mill may even predate the construction of the tower. Today, there is no water around the tower; only village houses surround it.
Thanks to restoration efforts in the 1990s, the tower is in good condition.
