Description
The fort was constructed in 1826 by the French philhellene general Charles Nicolas Fabvier (known as "Favieros" to the Greeks). Fabvier, who played a key role in organizing the first tactical unit of the Greek Army, built the fort on the ruins of an ancient fortification established by the Athenian general Nikias in the 5th century BC. Interestingly, the nearby village is named "Tactikoupolis," a nod to this military history.
The fort itself was relatively small, covering an area of approximately 235 square meters. The best-preserved part is the southeastern facade, which is 20 meters long and flanked by two cylindrical towers.
