Description
Built around 200 meters above the sea on the brink of a precipitous cliff, the medieval defensive village served as a kind of fortification to fend off pirate raids on the little town. The little buildings' roofs were supported by juniper trees found in the area, and their outside walls were left unpainted to make them harder to see from the sea. Although some of the houses have been rebuilt, they once had embrasures and escape routes during the conflict. The dwellings that are still occupied today were constructed on top of the remains of earlier walls.
This town's historic district is really lovely, including distinctive architecture, blue shutters, and whitewashed walls. Pots and vibrant flowers have been placed on the whitewashed steps, which the previous occupants of the little dwellings utilized as lounging spots.
