Description
Before the castle was constructed, a Muslim monastery existed on the site, built in 1668, which gave the area its name, Teke.
The castle was built in 1806 by Ali Pasha as part of his strategic plans to launch an attack on the island of Lefkas.
However, Ali’s plans were interrupted in July 1807, when the French took control of the Ionian Islands following a treaty with the Russians.
Shortly afterward, Ali Pasha handed the castle over to the Grivas family, which is why it became known as the "Castle of Grivas."
In May 1821, during the Greek Revolution, the castle was captured by Greek forces.
