Description
This fortification is certainly medieval, with no evidence of earlier (ancient) structures. The only historical reference to it comes from a Venetian map, which marks a castle at this location called Leriche, believed to be the same as Lechries. The exact timeline of the castle's construction is unclear, but it may have been built before the arrival of the Franks and continued to be used during the Frankish period.
The site was never a major or powerful stronghold. Instead, it is likely that a small medieval settlement once surrounded the rock, with the fortification serving as protection.
A short distance from the rock, the ruins of the church of Agios Vasileios can be found near a water spring
