Description

It served as a strategic and logistical base, functioning as a port for the arrival and repair of ships, as well as for the storage of goods for the Zográphou Monastery, from which it is located about five kilometers away.

The large arsanás complex is a characteristic example of a harbor on Mount Athos, well-preserved and complete in terms of its functions and the number of accompanying buildings. The great distance from the Monastery made the development of a comprehensive local organization of buildings and functions necessary, forming a small seaside settlement.

Extensive maintenance and restoration work was carried out on the arsanás tower during the period of 1996-1998.
