Description
Historically, the settlement was referred to as the Castle of Isvoro, with "Isvoro" being the Slavic name of a nearby village.
This settlement was notable as a center of mining activity, particularly for silver and lead production. The name "Sidirokafsia" has been recorded since the Byzantine period in the 9th century, but the settlement experienced its peak in metal production and economic growth during the early Ottoman occupation in the 15th century.
The surviving tower at Sidirokafsia was likely constructed in the 15th century, or possibly in the early 16th century at the latest. Nearby, other Ottoman structures remain, including the Tower of Madem Aga, located very close to this tower.
