Description
The stronghold was built to survey the bays of Palouggeri and Vlichada and to stave off pirate attacks on the prosperous region that produced the well-known wine Malvazia.
When the region was a part of the Despotate of Mystras, which ruled from 1260 until the Ottoman invasion, it was most likely constructed in the Late-Byzantine era, or about the 14th century.
