Description
History This tower was one of over 70 that once safeguarded the dependencies of the Mount Athos monasteries in Chalkidiki. The Ozolimnos tower was part of a metochi belonging to the Xiropotamos monastery. According to Athonite records, the monastery has owned this land since at least the 14th century. It’s likely that the tower was constructed during that early period.
The name "Ozolimnos" means "stinking lake," referring to a swamp by the sea with an area of approximately 500,000 square meters.
