Description
Positioned on a low hill with two peaks, the Lilandas River flows at the base of the hill. These towers are Venetian forts, likely constructed in the 15th century to protect the water supply system to Chalkis. A record from 1429 mentions that one of the towers served as the seat of the river master, a Venetian official responsible for overseeing the operation of the water system.
The eastern tower has a square layout, with each side measuring 6.10 meters. The entrance is located 6 meters above the ground. A unique feature of this tower is the presence of four round openings at the top, one on each side. According to one theory, these openings were clock cases, suggesting that this could have been the first clock tower in Greece.
Western Tower
The base of the other tower measures 7.5 by 7.0 meters.
