Description
The tower was constructed shortly after the Venetians took control of the region, following 1322. It was part of a medieval settlement covering around 20,000 square meters, of which several remnants have been recently uncovered. It stands at a height of 10 meters, with a base measuring 8 by 8 meters. For security purposes, its entrance was positioned at an elevated level.
The tower and the settlement remained inhabited until 1470, when the Turks captured Pteleos soon after taking the city of Chalkis. After this, the port fell into decline, and the tower was abandoned.
