Description
During the Venetian occupation, Alikianos was the fiefdom of the Da Molin family. Marco da Molin, who arrived in 1229, was the first of his family to settle there. While it is widely believed that the tower was constructed in the 13th century, its architectural style suggests it may have been built later, in the 14th or 15th century.
Today, only the ruins of the southwest corner remain, extending about 14 meters in length and reaching a maximum height of 7 meters.
The tower was destroyed in 1527 during a tragic event. It became the site of a massacre when Cretan rebels, who had been trapped inside during a wedding between Sofia, the daughter of local lord Francesco Da Molin, and Petros Kantanoleos, the son of a rebellion leader, were killed.
