Description
While the tower’s origins are ancient, it has strategic position and sturdy construction ensured its continued use during the Middle Ages. Evidence of repairs from the Frankish period can be seen, with materials and stones from the ancient city used in these modifications.
The tower has dimensions of 6.10 by 6.10 meters, with walls that are 1.36 meters thick at the base, gradually becoming thinner toward the top. The tower reaches a height of 7.20 meters, though the original ancient portion ends at 4.5 meters, with the remaining section consisting of Frankish-era reconstructions.
The gate, located at the center of the southeast wall, was added during the Middle Ages by removing a stone from the wall to create an entrance.
