Description

The Venetians constructed it towards the end of the 16th century, following repeated requests to the Venetian Senate to provide protection for the local population from Turkish threats. Though the resulting castle was strong and spacious, it ultimately did not prove very useful; the local residents sought refuge in Chandax instead, and the Turks who later occupied the area chose not to use it.
